Hon. Amina Gerba: My question is for the Government Representative in the Senate. Senator Moreau, while Canada seeks to diversify its economic and trade partnerships, including with Africa as part of Canada’s Africa Strategy, we are still waiting for a new special envoy for Africa to be appointed.

Can the government tell us where and when this appointment process will take place? When does it plan to finally appoint the next special envoy for Africa?

Hon. Pierre Moreau (Government Representative in the Senate): Thank you for the question, Senator Gerba. You’ve had the opportunity to raise a number of questions regarding Canada’s interest in trade with the African continent. I’ve explained that Canada is committed to maintaining and expanding its trade with African countries, which are regarded as very important partners.

At this time, we do not have a specific date for the appointment of the special envoy. I will check with the minister responsible for international relations and get back to you shortly.

Senator Gerba: Yes, please check with the minister and provide us with a written response. Thank you.

Senator Moreau: I can provide a written response, and I will confirm it verbally as soon as I have it.
