Ottawa, February 13, 2024 – The Progressive Senate Group (PSG) announced a change in their leadership team, following an established internal election process.
Senator Pierre Dalphond has been elected as Leader; Senator Judy White has been acclaimed as Deputy Leader; and Senator Amina Gerba has been acclaimed as Caucus Chair/Deputy Liaison. These new roles will be effective February 27, 2024. Senator Wanda Thomas Bernard is the other member of the PSG leadership team, serving in the role of Liaison since February 2023.
On behalf of all Progressives, Senator Dalphond expressed thanks to outgoing Leader, Senator Jane Cordy, who has served in this role since December 2019. “Jane has fostered a true sense of collaboration and collegiality in our group, and we have been so grateful for her guidance over the past few years.”
He also thanked outgoing Caucus Chair/Deputy Liaison, Senator Francis. “Brian has admirably guided our caucus discussions since November 2020, and we are lucky to benefit from his calm and inclusive approach.”
Senator Judy White, incoming Deputy Leader, and Senator Amina Gerba, incoming Caucus Chair/Deputy Liaison, were both welcomed by their colleagues to these new leadership roles.
The Progressive Senate Group is made up of like-minded individuals, inspired by the Algonquin word, “Mamidosewin,” which means meeting place and walking together. They are independent, inclusive, and always ready to welcome other independent senators who share progressive values.
